About Jerry Noble.

Jerry Noble is grateful to have a career that has led him to performances in Carnegie Hall, the Caribbean, tours in China, Hawaii, Alaska, and extensive/diverse performances throughout the midwest and the south.Jerry is an orchestral percussionist, a timpanist, has had many high profile drumset gigs, regularly collaborates in chamber music settings, stays active in the marching arts community, is active in the Percussive Arts Society, and is a corporate consultant. Jerry serves as Director of Percussion at Wright State University, is member of the Dayton Philharmonic, performs regularly with his pop/jazz group "Moment's Notice,” and is an artist/clinician/consultant with D’Addario (Promark and Evans).

While a member of the USAF Band of Flight, Jerry performed over 1,500 concerts throughout the Midwest. Notable people he performed for include the Tuskegee Airman, Senator John Glenn, President Bill Clinton, President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Senators, Congressman, Governors, foreign dignitaries, and other heads of state. He  has had featured performances in Severance Hall, premiered compositions by James Beckel and Julie Giroux, performed for President Gerald Ford’s State Funeral, and performed at the Midwest Clinic several times. Jerry served as the Concert Band Timpanist, Showband Drummer, Brass Quintet Drummer, and Jazz Combo Drummer, and Jazz Band Drummer/Vibes. Jerry has also performed with the USAF Band of Liberty.


As a teacher, Jerry has taught at Wright State for 15  years; serves as adjunct percussion faculty at Cedarville University, has been faculty/performer at Brevard Music Center,  coached chamber music and instructed at the Masterworks Festival, and has presented clinics at PASIC, OMEA, Ontario Day of Percussion, Zhengzhou Normal University in China, Ohio Day of Percussion, and the Illinois Day of Percussion. He was an Associate Instructor at Indiana University and has presented numerous clinics throughout the US for college and high school programs.   


His orchestral percussion career involves regularly performing with the Cincinnati Symphony/Pops, Louisiana Philharmonic, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Jerry has performed in Carnegie Hall with the Cincinnati Symphony and the Louisiana Philharmonic. He has recorded and toured Asia with the Cincinnati Symphony. Jerry has also appeared as guest principal timpanist with the Cincinnati Symphony, Hunan Symphony (China), Alabama Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, Principal Timpanist of the Lakeside Symphony, and acting Principal Timpani of the Indianapolis Symphony. After the completion of his undergraduate degree, Jerry started performing with the West Virginia Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, and the New World Symphony.  While in grad school he won principal auditions with the Owensboro Symphony (Kentucky),  the Columbus Philharmonic (Indiana), and frequently performed with the Evansville Philharmonic.  


As a drummer Jerry has his own band, “Moment’s Notice”. They have been featured with the Dayton Philharmonic, opened for country legend Neal McCoy, performed concerts at Lakeside Chautauqua, and perform for private parties, fundraising events, weddings, and prominent community events. Jerry has also been featured with the Springfield Symphony (Ohio) as a rhythm section member for an Aretha Franklin Tribute concert, performing with Broadway singer Capathis Jenkins and Grammy award winning singer Ryan Shaw. Jerry has performed drumset/percussion for the national touring Broadway show “Cinderella”, was the drummer for “Caroline or Change'' show in Columbus with an all New York MD, performed for the  nationally touring show “Zelda”, performed many other regional music theater companies, and he has toured the Caribbean as a drummer for Princess Cruises.


As a chamber musician, Jerry has collaborated with Bob Becker, Mike Burritt, Rich Weiner, So Percussion, the Percussion Collective, and with members of the Indianapolis Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Sandbox Percussion, US Army Old guard Drumline, and NEXUS. He has presented solo and chamber music recitals at Brevard Music Center, Masterworks Festival, Baltimore Composer’s Guild (An Die Musik),  the Troy Hayner Cultural Center, Hunan (China), Chengde (China), and Alaska. He has performed as a concerto soloist for the Columbus Philharmonic (Indiana), Niu Valley Concert Band (Hawaii), and the Wright State University Symphony.


While not having truly been a part of the marching performance/pageantry arts, Jerry is indeed active in Marching Arts Community--percussion staff/arranger with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Marching Band, cast member/percussion with Star of Indiana's "Brass Theater" (1998 in Branson Missouri, annually works as an Indoor Drumline judge. He also has performed alongside members of the Old Guard Drumline, Mike McIntosh, and Nick Angelis. As a drumline instructor, he has instructed for Kettering Fairmont Indoor, directed the Percussion in the Valley Drumline (in Alaska and has taught many drumlines throughout his 29 year teaching career.


Solo artists Jerry has worked with include Sir James Galway, Mark O’Connor, Janos Starker, Diane Schur, Arturo Sandoval, Don Rickles, the Smothers Brothers, Art Garfunkel, Weird Al Yankovic, Neil Sedaka, and the Miracles.  He has immensely enjoyed the opportunity to work with great conductors such as Louis Langre, Paavo Jarvi, Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Slatkin, Eric Kunzel, Giancarlo Guerrero, Juanjo Mena, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Jahja Ling, Ludovic Morlot, Neal Gittleman, Matthew Kraemer,
He has led the Wright State Percussion Ensemble in concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (winners of the 2016 PAS International Percussion Competition), Ohio Music Educator Association Conferences, Ohio Days of Percussion, Interlochen Arts Academy, and the Niu Valley Percussion Festival (Hawaii).

Former/current students hold positions with the US Navy Bands, Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, Mansfield Symphony, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
Illinois Wesleyan University, University of Cincinnati-Bearcat Bands; have performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Dayton Philharmonic, USAF Band of Flight, and Fort Wayne Philharmonic.  

Former students have also served as percussion staff with Rhythm X, Madison Scouts, Cap City Percussion, Phantom Regiment, Colts D&B, Santa Clara Vanguard, Boston Crusaders, ConneXus, Matrix Indoor Percussion. Dozens of Wright State Percussion alum have served as active educators throughout Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Nevada, DC Metro area, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and China.


Degrees are from UC-College Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, and Cleveland State.  He has studied with Tom Freer, Jim Culley, Kenny Aronoff, Rusty Burge, Al Otte, Gerald Carlyss, Glenn Schaft, and Jim Rupp. Jerry has also had lessons with Cloyd Duff, Robert Van Sice, Eric Schweikert, Rich Weiner, and Ryan Brown (Dweezil Zappa’s drummer).  


Jerry Noble is a performing artist/clinician for Zildjian, Pearl/Adams, and proudly serves as a consultant for D'Addario & Co. (Pro-Mark and Evans).
He and his wife Ashley are the parents of Ava, Lydia, and Isaac.  Ashley is an oboist/English hornist.
